Music Arranger
Mr Tan Kah Kong graduated from Anderson Junior college before undertaking his studies in electrical engineering. After having worked 15 years in the Oil & Gas Industry, he decided to pursue a career in the music industry. He has been an arranger for popular Chinese TV shows, such as the Masked Singer, the Sound of My Dream, and Sing! China. He has been a singer, music producer, song writer, orchestrator, and many more. The path of a music career is a tough and arduous journey, however, Mr Tan believes that if you continue to learn, to practise, and remain humble, one can succeed in the music industry.
Director of Programme (Singapore Chinese Orchestra)
Ms Choon Woon Ying has been working in the arts industry for more than 19 years and is currently the director of programmes for the Singapore China Orchestra. She shares the various jobs that the arts induestry has to offer, such as a Broadcast Presenter, Screenwriter, Choreographer, Conductor, Composer, Sound Engineer, Company Manager, and so much more. She also provides more insight as to how a career in the arts industry is like, in which she mentions that the nature of the workings involves a lot of freelancing, such as working for different employers for different projects rther than a permanent job. her advice to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the arts is to research on work experience placements and getting involved in as many shows as possible to build up a good reputation.
Director/Actress, Theater Arts/Drama (Her Playback Theatre)
After having worked as an Assistant Editor, Ms Renee Chua felt that this career wasn not suited for her and decided o turn her attention towards the performing arts. In this industry, she picked up many new skills, such as miming, puppetry, physical theatre, and attended various other masterclasses to further expand her knowledge on the arts. In her career, Ms Chua has managed to perform outdoors, in the Esplanade, overseas, and has even collaborated with DJs and TV films. Her advice is to be passionate in learning and be willing to take risks.
Manager, Education (National Gallery)
Before working as an Education Manager for the National Gallery, Mr Shaun Soh began as a polytechnic lecturer who taught modules in design, art, and storytelling. In his current role as an education Manager, Mr Soh promotes programs offered by the National Gallery and promotes the museum as a comfortable place for people to appreciate art and ask questions regarding art. His education vision is to nurture generations of art lovers, creative, and critical thinkers.
