Direct School Admission (DSA-JC) Exercise 2022 (Applications are now closed)

Anderson Serangoon Junior College (ASRJC) welcomes students with talent in various fields to apply for entry to the college through Direct School Admission (DSA). For more information on DSA, please refer to MOE DSA-JC website.

1) DSA Talent Areas

We are looking for students with talent in the following areas:

  • Achievements/Awards in SYF/ International Competitions
  • Achievements in Music/Dance/Drama Examinations

  • Commendable performance at audition
 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Critical criteria:

  • Strong knowledge in C++/Java/Python programming as demonstrated by competition/ certification

Other useful criteria:·

  • Participation in long term science research programmes, of at least 4 weeks, with tertiary institutions/A*STAR Research Institutes etc. AND/OR
  • Participation in cluster/zonal/national/international science research based competitions. Priority will be given to applicants who have won top awards (e.g. Gold or Silver) in these competitions AND/OR
  • Carried out an extensive, independent inquiry-based project. There should be evidence of a prototype, or participation in competitions.

  • Language Elective Programme – Tamil (TLEP)
 

  • Participation in CCAs and /or competitions related to Tamil Language and Literature e.g.
    • National Level Debate (Sorkalam)
    • Competitions organised by MOE CPDD
    • Competitions organized by external organisations such as Tamil Writers’ Association, Valar Tamil Iyakkam, Tamil Language Festival, Inter-Schools  competitions 

 

 

2) Application Process

Step 1: Application
  • Submit online application form through this link.
  • The deadline for the submission of online application forms is Fri 15 July 2022.
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their application well in advance of the deadline to be considered for Phase 1.
  • Applicants are required to attach scanned copies of the following along with their application:
    • Secondary School Report book with Sec 3 Year-end and Sec 4 Mid-year results,  including copies of latest school academic results if available
    • School CCA records
    • Relevant certifications and/or records of achievement related to the area of talent
  • Applicants may go ahead to submit the application form first if the official documents are unavailable.
Step 2: Trials/Auditions
  • Attend the in-person selection trials/auditions if shortlisted.
    Only shortlisted applicants will be notified by email to attend the trial.
Step 3: Interview
  • Attend the in-person interview if shortlisted.
    Only shortlisted applicants will be notified by email to attend the interview.
Special Note:
  • Applicants who are not offered a place in Phase 1 need not resubmit, as all applications will be considered for both Phase 1 and 2 (if there is vacancy).
  • Successful DSA-JC candidates will gain admission to ASRJC in 2023 for their JC education as long as they meet the eligibility set by MOE for the two-year Junior College Course based on their GCE O-Level examinations results.
  • Please note that successful DSA-JC candidates will NOT be allowed to participate in the Joint Admissions Exercise. They will also NOT be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the GCE O-Level examination results.
  • They are expected to honour their commitment to the DSA-JC schools and to participate in activities related to the talent selected in, for the duration of the programme admitted to. Applicants admitted to TLEP must offer H2 Tamil Language and Literature and take part in the activities related to TLEP.
  • Students who do not fulfil their DSA commitment without valid reason may be required to transfer out to another school.
3) Selection Process
Trials / Auditions

Applicants will be shortlisted for trials/auditions based on evidence of the following aspects:

  • Track record, experience and commitment to the talent area.
  • Achievements, qualifications and certifications in the talent areas.
Interviews

Applicants will be shortlisted for interviews based on their performance at trials / auditions.

(Note: For students applying for DSA in the Science & Technology and Tamil Language Elective Programme, they will only be required to attend an interview.)

Shortlisted applicants from the trials will be required to attend an in-person interview to enable the College to better understand the:

  • Applicant’s interest/ passion for the specific talent area;
  • Applicant’s experiences (if any) in nurturing the specific talent area (e.g through school CCA, sport academies/ clubs or private coaching);
  • Applicant’s motivation for joining ASRJC;
  • Applicant’s ability to cope with JC curriculum.
