Direct School Admission (DSA-JC) Exercise 2021 (Applications Closed)

Anderson Serangoon Junior College (ASRJC) welcomes students with talent in various fields to apply for entry to the college through Direct School Admission (DSA). For more information on DSA, please refer to MOE DSA-JC website.

1) DSA Talent Areas

  • Critical criteria:

(1) Strong knowledge in C++/Java/Python programming as demonstrated by competition/ certificationOther useful criteria:·       Participation in long term science research programmes, of at least 4 weeks, with tertiary institutions/A*STAR Research Institutes etc. AND/OR

  • Participation in cluster/zonal/national/international science research based competitions. Priority will be given to applicants who have won top awards (e.g. Gold or Silver) in these competitions AND/OR
  • Carried out an extensive, independent inquiry-based project. There should be evidence of a prototype, or participation in competitions.

  • Language Elective Programme – Tamil (TLEP)

  • Participation in CCAs and /or competitions related to Tamil Language and Literature e.g.
    • National Level Debate (Sorkalam)
    • Competitions organised by MOE CPDD
    • Competitions organized by external organisations such as Tamil Writers’ Association, Valar Tamil Iyakkam, Tamil Language Festival, Inter-Schools  competitions 



2) Application Process (New!)

Step 1:
  • Submit online application form through this link.
  • The deadline for the submission of online application forms is Fri 30 July 2021.
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their application well in advance of the deadline to be considered for Phase 1.
  • Applicants are required to attach scanned copies of the following along with their application"
    • Secondary School Report book with Sec 3 Year-end and Sec 4 Mid-year results,  including copies of latest school academic results if available
    • School CCA records
    • Relevant certifications and/or records of achievement related to the area of talent
  • Update: We understand that many students have not received their result slips and CCA records yet. Applicants may go ahead to submit the application first without the official documents.
Step 2:
  • Attend video conference interview if shortlisted.  Only shortlisted applicants will be notified by email to attend the video conference.
  • Interviews will commence from 28 June to 1 September 2021. The date and time for the video conferencing will be shared with shortlisted applicants accordingly.
  • Where the video conference consists of a performance task, shortlisted applicants will be given advanced notice.
Special Note:
  • Applicants who are not offered a place in Phase 1 need not resubmit, as all applications will be considered for both Phase 1 and 2 (if there is vacancy).
  • Successful DSA-JC candidates will gain admission to ASRJC in 2021 for their JC education as long as they meet the eligibility set by MOE for the two-year Junior College Course based on their GCE ‘O’ Level examinations results.
  • Please note that successful DSA-JC candidates will NOT be allowed to participate in the Joint Admissions Exercise. They will also NOT be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the GCE ‘O’ Level examination results.
  • They are expected to honour their commitment to the DSA-JC schools and to participate in activities related to the talent selected in, for the duration of the programme admitted to.  Applicants admitted to TLEP must offer H2 Tamil Language and Literature and take part in the activities related to TLEP
  • Students who do not fulfil their DSA commitment without valid reason may be required to transfer out to another school

Considerations for Shortlisting

Applicants will be shortlisted based on evidence of the following aspects, as gathered from the applicant’s submission of supporting documents:

  • Track record, experience and commitment to the talent area.
  • Positive character traits such as discipline, resilience and commitment.
  • Achievements, qualifications and certifications in talent areas.
Selection Interviews via Video Conference

Shortlisted applicants from the trials will be required to attend an online interview to enable the College to better understand the:

  • Applicant’s interest/ passion for the specific talent area;
  • Applicant’s experiences (if any) in nurturing the specific talent area (e.g through school CCA, sport academies/ clubs or private coaching);
  • Applicant’s motivation for joining ASRJC;
  • Applicant’s ability to cope with JC curriculum.

Concert Band
  • Prepare all 12 major scales (2 octaves). Varying articulations will be tested.

For percussionists - scales on mallet percussion

  • Perform 2 contrasting etudes, concertos or studies. Band excerpts are not encouraged.

For percussionists - 1 on snare drum and the other on either mallet percussion or timpani

Contemporary Dance
  • The audition will comprise a short dance routine and candidates will be guided on stretching and strength exercises to demonstrate their flexibility and strength.
  • Perform a choreography of any genre (with music accompanied) to present dance skills and showmanship.
  • The duration should be a minimum of 1 minute.

English Drama Perform two monologues of no more than two minutes each.

  • One monologue should be from a play written by a Singaporean playwright
  • The other monologue can be from any other play or poem

Guitar Ensemble
  • Prepare a major and a minor scale, for 3 octaves
  • Demonstrate guitar techniques namely pizzicato, harmonics, slurs and chord arpeggios (students can choose which chords to play)
  • Perform one solo piece of about 2-3 min

Mdm Khoo Ching Wan

Indian Dance
  • One solo piece dance item for about 1- 2 minutes with accompanying audio. No make-up is required.
  • Attire Requirements: School T-shirt, black pants and a shawl to drape over the upper body.
